Great West Road is a major economic driver in Brentford, an area of west London at the start of the M4 motorway corridor. The area is known for its diversity in company headquarters, with many businesses attracted to the area for its transport links and proximity to Central London and Heathrow Airport.

Businesses along the stretch of the Great West Road in Brentford include GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), JCDecaux, EMC Corporation, and Sky TV. Allianz, Worley Parsons, Agfa, Humax Electronics, Samsung and Reliance Globalcom also have operations in the area. Gulf Air and Pakistan International Airways also have offices along the Golden Mile, a name given to the stretch of the Great West Road in Brentford in honour of its status as a hub for industry and commerce.

Office Locations near Great West Road

Several former factories along Great West Road have been converted into office accommodation for major global brands. The Currys Factory at Number 991 was built in 1936 and is a Grade II Listed building. The building's front office building was restored from 1997 to 2000 and it is now used by JCDecaux.

The Henly's Car Showroom was used by Studebaker and Jaguar during various periods since the building opened in 1937. It was also used as a warehouse for Martini. The building was redeveloped in 1989 and has been used as offices for Data General and more recently EMC Corporation.

The Trico Products factory opened in 1928 and was demolished in 1992. The building along with its neighbour the Macleans Factory are now used as the European headquarters for GlaxoSmithKline.

Other business locations include Brentside Park, a campus-style business park with four office buildings. Tenants include Verisure, Human Performance Laboratory, Transform Medical Group, and Hill Spink Properties.

Great West House is a landmark development at the junction with Boston Manor Road. It includes two towers, GW1 and GW2. In total, the office complex has approximately 155,000 square feet of office accommodation. Office suites range from 1,000 square feet. Amenities include reception areas in each building, restaurant and gym facilities, car and bicycle parking, and shuttle bus service to Boston Manor tube station. The complex is adjacent to Brentford station.

About Great West Road

The Great West Road forms part of the A4, a major road linking Central London and Avonmouth. The A4 travels past Heathrow Airport, Reading, Bath and Bristol. The stretch of the road north of Brentford from Chiswick is known as the Golden Mile. The name honours the industry and commerce concentrated along this section of the Great West Road, which originally opened in 1925 as a bypass to Brentford High Street. Several factories were built along the street, and many early occupants sought out the area to take advantage of the excellent transportation link.

Most of the factories were architectural masterpieces of the era, and many remain fine examples of Art Deco design. Factories along the Great West Road include Wallis House, which was built between 1936 and 1942 for Simmonds Aerocessories. The building was redeveloped between 2005 and 2008 into housing units. The Gillette Factory, which was built between 1936 and 1937, is also being redeveloped into apartments and a hotel.

The Firestone Tyre Company factory was built in 1928, although much of it has since been demolished. Remaining gates, railings and piers are Grade II listed and are examples of Jazz Modern style. Brentford rail station and Boston Manor tube station, which is served by the Piccadilly line, are within walking distance of the Golden Mile.
