About Rickmansworth

Situated in south-west Hertfordshire, Rickmansworth is about 20 miles or 32 kilometres northwest of Central London. The town is north of the Grand Union Canal and the River Colne, and approximately five miles or eight kilometres west of Watford. Rickmansworth is the seat of the Three Rivers District Council. The district gets its name from the Chess, Colne and Gade rivers, which all run through the area. The rivers provided trade routes as well as power for various activities, including brewing, paper making and silk weaving.

Rickmansworth is connected to the rest of London by the London Underground's Metropolitan line. The arrival of the Metropolitan line in 1887 helped transform the area into a commuter town, and the town continued to grow dramatically into the 1920s and 1930s. Rickmansworth is also served by rail services running to London Marylebone station. The M25 also provides access to Heathrow Airport and other destinations throughout the UK.
