Business in Rotherhithe

Rotherhithe has been the site of a port and shipyards from Elizabethan times. Beginning in the 1980s, old warehouses and new developments helped transform the area into a new residential district. The arrival of the London Overground and Jubilee lines have solidified Rotherhithe as a residential and commuter area. Development around Deal Porter Square has also created a new town centre with a mix of retail and commercial development. Cafes, restaurants and the Surrey Quays Shopping Centre have helped create a new economic centre for Rotherhithe close to Canada Water. Planning permission has also been obtained to redevelop the shopping centre.

Once the site of the Surrey Commercial Docks, Surrey Quays sits in the southern part of Rotherhithe. The area includes a large marina and sailing facility at Greenland Dock in addition to a large residential quarter with a mix of detached homes and apartments. Light industrial plants are also located at Surrey Quays, including printing works for Associated Newspapers, which publishes the Evening Standard and the Daily Mail.

Office Buildings in Rotherhithe

Furnished and serviced offices are available at Cannon Wharf, a residential development project that includes commercial space. Offices range from 255 square feet to more than 4,500 square feet. On-site amenities include parking, showers, a staffed reception area, meeting rooms, and bicycle racks.

Surrey Quays also has several office developments. St Olav's Court features bright self-contained offices on three floors. Modern offices range from 484 square feet to 1,178 square feet in size.

Located across from St Olav's Court is the City Business Centre. The facility provides modern office accommodation from 495 square feet to 1,200 square feet. Units may also be combined to create larger workspaces. Both options are close to Canada Water, Bermondsey and Rotherhithe stations.

About Rotherhithe

Rotherhithe is a residential neighbourhood in the south-east of London within the London Borough of Southwark. Part of the Docklands area, it sits on a peninsula on the south bank of the River Thames. It is little wonder that Rotherhithe has strong connections with the sea. The area was the site of several shipyards during the Elizabethan era up until the 1970s. Beginning in the 1980s, Rotherhithe was largely redeveloped as docks were filled and warehouses converted alongside new upmarket residential developments.

In 1999, the arrival of the Jubilee line of the London Underground improved connections to the West End and Canary Wharf. New London Overground services to the City of London arrived in 2010. These developments and improvements have helped gentrify Rotherhithe into a residential and commuter district, while commercial growth has been seen in the areas of Downtown Road, Rotherhithe Street and Deal Porter Square at Canada Water. The area will also be the home of London's first pedestrian and cycle crossing on the River Thames, the future Rotherhithe Bridge. First proposed in 2008, the bridge will link Rotherhithe and Canary Wharf.
