London Tube

Zone 5 covers thirteen local authorities in Outer London, including one in Essex (Epping Forest) and one in Surrey (Epsom and Ewell). The remaining local authorities are Barking and Dagenham, Bexley, Barnet, Croydon, Ealing, Bromley, Enfield, Harrow, Waltham Forest, Hillingdon, Sutton, parts of Richmond upon Thames, and Kingston. The distance to central London (Piccadilly Circus) varies between 9.75 and 12.75 miles.

The most densely populated postcodes in this zone are EN1 and EN2 (Enfield Town), EN3 (Ponders End), EN4 (Barnet, Cockfosters), HA1 (Harrow), HA2 and HA5 (Rayners Lane), HA4 (Ruislip), SM1 to SM3 (Sutton), Chingford (E4), and CR2 (South Croydon). The western end of Zone 5 is home to several large business parks, especially around Harrow and the UB3 postcode, where Hyde Hayes and Stockley Park are the most important business estates. Some large IT and telecommunications firms are based here, including BT, Sharp, Canon, Apple, IBM, Samsonite, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and Rocket Software. On the other hand, the areas surrounding Chingford, Ponders End, and Buckhurst Hill have been developed as large industrial estates and retail parks, such as Deacon Estate Park and Avenue Business Park. Generally speaking, the dominant industrial sectors in the eastern end of Zone 5 include the trades, logistics, and retail. In the south (mainly around the South Croydon area) the most important economic sectors are leisure, retail, and business services.

Zone 5 is served by the Piccadilly, Central, Metropolitan, District, and Northern underground lines. In addition, some stations offer railway links with parts of Greater London, Essex, and Surrey. Some of the stations where rail links are available include Albany Park, Bexleyheath, Bromley South, Chingford, Dagenham Dock, East Croydon, Enfield Town, Hayes, Hounslow, Northolt Park, Ruislip, West Sutton, and Sidcup.
