The tallest is 50-floor One Canada Square, which is the second-tallest building in the United Kingdom after The Shard. There are also more than 300 shops, cafes, restaurants and bars in the district.

From the start of the nineteenth century until the start of the Second World War, Canary Wharf was the site of one of the world's busiest docks. With the decline of the port industry, the area's docks were closed by the beginning of the 1980s. The once derelict area now boasts 97 acres of some of the world's most appealing and sought-after commercial properties, with further development plans underway.
